How can I find a good Kazekage (from Naruto) costume for cosplay?
I want to cosplay real bad (never done it) and I believe that the only way to do it (due to my not resembling any anime character) is by being fully dressed and covered (not to mention my favorite color BLUE) with the long robes of the respectable Lord Kazekage. I know it sounds lame, but it means a lot to me and I want to attend Anime Expo without feeling like an outsider… so yeah any tips on where to find the costume or where to have someone make it for me for a reasonable price (i.e. less than $500).
What a coincidence, I’m going to be cosplaying for the first time this year too. ^_^
Actually you don’t have to worry about not looking like an anime character. It’s the effort that goes into making yourself look as convincing as possible that matters. So don’t worry so much about your looks but concentrate on your costume instead. ^_^
Find as many pictures of the character you want to cosplay and study the various details that go into its making. Take note of the colours and patterns before you go shopping for the cloth. Find out from your friends where you can buy cloth and start shopping for bargains. if possible, get a friend to come along so they can help you make decisions.
After you have bought the cloth, locate an experienced tailor (you can ask around or google it). Bring all pictures and cloth to said tailor and discuss how you want your costume to be like.
For other accessories such as the straw hat, you can try looking for an item that resembles the real thing as much as possible. Additional details such as the ‘wind’ character on the hat can be written on a piece of white cloth and pasted onto the hat. You can also change the colour of the hat by spray-painting it or something.
If you’re still confused about how to go about things, maybe you can try locating cosplayers in your area. Google and you may just find a forum that specially caters to cosplayers living near you. ^_^
