Cosplay And Costumes
Emulating cartoon characters that I have watched is one of my favorite things to do when I was just a child. Whether it be American or Japanese cartoons, once I have taken interest in a character, there’s no stopping me. My family is rather supportive of this habit of mine. Because of these they always give me costumes of my favorite cartoon characters. Oh, I was so happy at that time! Rather than just acting like my favorite characters, I can now look just like them. I would wear these costumes everyday, preferably at night because it is more comfortable.
I don’t wear costumes regularly now that I’m now a grown up. But my interest in costumes never died. One of my hobbies now is collecting costumes. And right now I am more fascinated at the highly detailed costumes compared to the costumes back then. At times I would go to the net browsing for costumes. While browsing, I would see different kinds of costumes like Superman Costumes, the Simpsons costumes, a Naruto Costume (from the Japanese Anime), StarCraft costumes, a Mr Potato Head Costume, and much more. The sight of such costumes really makes me happy.
Usually, Halloween and Christmas are the times where you can wear your costumes because of many costume parties during these seasons. However, there are now costume roleplay or more commonly known as “cosplay” conventions. In cosplay conventions, people gather together wearing various kinds of costumes. Although the word cosplay is originally coined in the east, people from other countries, especially in the west, are beginning to accept the term as well. The cosplay events between the east and the west are basically the same. Their only difference it that western cosplay events commonly feature characters from western cartoons. Cosplay in Japan commonly feature characters from their local cartoons. However, this rule is not written is stone, for you will see eastern characters on American cosplay events and vice versa.
Another fun thing about being a cosplayer is that you can wear costumes not intended for your gender. You can crossdress without raising suspicions about your sexuality during cosplay events. So, during such events you will commonly see a boy wearing a Sailor Moon costume or a girl who wears a Mr Potato Head Costume.
Making your fantasy a reality though clothes, costumes are really an interesting thing. Even adults have joined the fun because it really is fun. For I think that they are a lot of fun, I think I will join some cosplay events when I have the time. I suggest that you should try it at least once. Millions of happy cosplayers can’t be wrong, after all!
