Saloon girl costumes appear to be really trendy this Halloween so let’s go into what this dress is like and what a Saloon girl was in the time when new frontiers were being forged.

What is A Saloon Girl

The western border describes the gradual opening out of European settlers from the Eastern coastline states that were first colonized in the seventeenth century by Europeans. Firstly, folks moved west for private reasons however as the expansion acquired pace, politics played a role. Initial politics were between European nations battling for ground in the “new world”. Afterward as the United States grew to be a country in its own right, the federal government saw the advantages of having more territory and encouraged people to move west.

So as folks moved west new lifestyles and culture sprung up to reflect how folks were living and coping with their new realities. You might say that it was largely a man’s world as it was a rough life and somewhat lawless. Nevertheless some women also made the west their own, one of which was the stereotypical saloon girl.

As small towns sprung up, the point of interest of the town would be the saloon or bar. This was the place where folks let their hair down to coin a phrase. If you watch the cowboy films, you will see them playing cards and supping on bottles of whiskey. In between the rounds of poker and the banging hangovers there would be other entertainment. This was provided by the saloon girls.

Saloon girls would be on a crude stage (or even quite an elaborate one, depending on the saloon). They’d sing and dance. They could do this as an together – the famous can can dance  is an example that might titillate the menfolk – they were a real sap for a sexy pair of bloomers in those days ! Or if the saloon girl was proficient and had developed a following, she might sing on her own and be the star attraction. When they weren’t entertaining they might be serving drinks in the saloon or behind the bar.

Saloon girls would wear costumes that were considered racy in that day and age – they in essence wore corsets or bustiers plus a frilly pair of knickerbockers along with the obligatory bloomers. This was sure to get every man’s heart a rushing, more than ever if they had been out on the trail for six months.

Saloon Girl Costumes At this moment

The saloon girl outfits that you may get at the present are much more revealing than the originals. They pretty much reflect what we see as a sexy outfit these days. They keep the same essence as the originals but the frilly bloomers are usually replaced by fishnet stockings. The bustier is lower cut and a little more flesh is on view. They are bound to look good at a Halloween party and create a big impact with the menfolk even if they have not been on the trail for six months.
