how should i make my post-apocolyptic future costume?

I’m going to my sister’s engineering ball. the theme is the yer 3000. Instead of going space age, i wanted to go post apocolypse/nuclear fall out. I’m not really sure how to do it yet. any ideas?
excuse my spelling of apocalypse lol. it’s one of those words that never look right however you spell it

carry a book of revelations made out of steel :)
and, you say nuclear? think tattered, scientific, yet kind of space aged. look crazed…hahaa. carry test tubes.
face paint the face and body silver lol.

good luck.
