Sweet Lolita outfit help?
I absolutely love the Sweet Lolita style. Problem is, I’m not sure where to go from there. I’ve seen lots of websites with Sweet Lolita outfits. Here are the ones I’ve seen:
-Closet Child
-Anna House
-Chocochip Cookie
-Sweet Rococo
-Lolita Costume/Lolita Dress Shop
Are there any others which cheaper prices and still good quality material? It’s obviously too late to ask for any of them for Christmas, but I’m getting allowance now and will try and save up my material.
Also, what do you think may look good on me? I have a short light brown bob, glasses, 5 ft 2 inches, 117 pounds, light skin tone, size 8 1/2 feet, C cup bra.

As you may have seen, what’s really important in any lolita outfit is the petticoat and bloomers. It’s ok if you prefer a regular pair of shorts instead, but be sure that you have the key piece that gives poof to a lolita skirt of any style, and something to wear for modesty. If you don’t know where to start in means of making a lolita closet, you can start with skirts and blouses which can be quite versatile for every day wear and generally affordable, or you can invest in a nice jumperskirt and base your wardrobe around it. If this makes sense, you should be able to find such jumper skirt and look for different blouses, cardigans/boleros, socks/tights, shoes, and accessories, that way, even though you have one dress, you can still make different outfits.
By now, you may have already checked the list of lolita shops in hello-lace, and while there are many designer brands that make it, you can find other lolita items sold for much less at other shops such as Bodyline or taobao shops; I highly recommend checking out the egl_comm_sales if you prefer to shop within your own country or even find unique, handmade goods. Anna House and Closet Child are actually really affordable, as AH uses Hong Kong dollars (use xe.com) and Closet Child is a second hand brand shop.
For your situation, you do not want to base your measurements for shopping by weight and seldom is height a worry. What you need to do is measure in centimeters and inches, your circumference of bust, waist (around the bellybutton), and hips. Remember:
- lolita skirts are meant to sit at your waist and the hem is generally around knee length (same idea goes with dresses).
- Petticoats can sit comfortably at your hips or just below your skirt, but should be 2-3 inches above your knee so it doesn’t peek.
- Looking for shoes? You can find cute flats and the like at local venues, but if shopping online, especially at places like Bodyline or taobao shops (especially BL since their chart is messed up), it’s recommended to measure properly by tracing your feet on a piece of paper, and measure the tallest part to your heel; add a centimeter or two for sock room.
- Try to avoid shops that lump “lolita” and “costumes” together because chances are, you’re going to find cheaply made items or items that are too costumish to be lolita. Sometimes photos are stolen as well. Here’s a guide on telling what’s a fake and not:

Because I don’t have a photo of you on hand, I cannot say for sure, and so, I think it’s safe to say that it doesn’t matter. If you like and want to wear sweet lolita, the only person who is stopping you is yourself. You’ll never know if you don’t try!
